Welcome to the website of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United Arab Emirates.
UAE and China enjoy friendly and cooperative relations over the past decades since the establishment of diplomatic ties. It has been heartening to note that the bedrock of the relations can be traced to the vibrant economic and trade exchanges between the two countries and I am optimistic that the momentum will gain further pace in its strides.
Thanks to their notable devotion of the far-sighted leaders and business people of the two countries, Sino-UAE economic and trade cooperation is growing by leap and bounds. The three big exhibitions, China Export Commodity Fair (announced to be named China Import & Export Commodity Fair by Premier Wen Jiabao), China Investment & Trade Forum, and Chinamex (which is a co-organized exhibition held annually in Sharjah of UAE) have become well-know cooperative platforms for bilateral business people.
In 2005, compared to the previous year, bilateral trade registered a twenty-third percent increase, amounting to US$10.77 billion. UAE has become China’s second largest trade partner in the Middle East while China has strengthened her status of the main suppliers of goods to the UAE.
It is also significant to note that many competent Chinese companies are involving in some big infrastructure and communication projects in the country. Their presence is highly conspicuous in the sectors of construction and telecommunication.
During recent years, more and more local businessmen are putting their eyes on China; meanwhile, along with the implementation of “Going Abroad” strategy, many Chinese companies are taking UAE as their regional headquarters or hubs for global development.
China has been maintaining a sound and stable economy development momentum since the reform and opening up to the outside world. With an annual average economy increase of 9.6% over the past 26 years, China’s Gross Domestic Product marked a record high of USD 2.2 trillion by the end of 2005, which placed China among the top 7 biggest economies around the world. However, China is still a developing county with an average per capita GDP of around USD1700.00. There are approximately 28 million people in China now still live under poverty line.
Aiming at boosting long-term economy development and improving peoples’ life, China Pursues scientific development with a strong wish of equality, mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence with the other countries of the world, and to cultivate a harmonious China and world.
Looking into the future, a promising Sino-UAE business cooperation panorama is unfolding before us.
The site we have set up aims to provide the service for entrepreneurs both from UAE and China, and to promote economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries. I sincerely wish our website would become an informative and useful bridge, which could facilitate the information exchange and increase mutual understanding, between UAE and China.
Looking forward for your visit again. Thank you.
Zhuang Ruijin
The Economic & Commercial Counsellor
Of the Chinese Embassy in UAE
